Berlin, 27 February 2024: The Qualification Network in Lusatia for Renewable Energies (QLEE) and the German Trade Union Confederation's REVIERWENDE project signed a cooperation agreement today at the EUREF campus in Berlin-Schöneberg to further strengthen their existing collaboration.
The main subject of the partnership agreement is the joint organisation of the second edition of the Zukunftsakademie Lausitz, which will take place in Lübbenau from 8 to 12 July 2024.
The cooperation between QLEE and REVIERWENDE also aims to raise awareness of the energy transition in Lusatia. Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection on the basis of a decision by the German Bundestag, both projects support the local economy and civil society in the structural change and contribute to the success of the energy transition in the Lusatian coalfield.
Jan Hinrich Glahr, German Renewable Energy Federation: "I am delighted that this format for young people is now taking place for the second time following its successful launch last year. Renewable energies will help to ensure that Lusatia remains not only an energy region, but also a region of innovation. As an industry of the future, they secure local value creation and jobs. The openness and enthusiasm for discussion on the topic of renewable energies are a benefit for our qualification project and make an important contribution to supporting the transformation process in Lusatia!"
Martin Heusler, LEAG Qualification Centre: "Attracting and qualifying young specialists for the growth area of renewable energies and new climate-neutral technologies and securing them for the region is now the order of the day for training and further education companies in the energy sector. LEAG and the partners cooperating in QLEE have already been focussing on this for several years and have started to set the course for this with the new further training course 'Expert for hydrogen applications', among other things. Together with REVIERWENDE, we want to and can get more young people interested in a technical profession in which they can help shape their own future and that of their home country."
Marko Schmidt, Team Leader REVIERWENDE - Lusatia Office: "Young people are the drivers of social developments. Only with their creativity, openness and expertise can we meet the challenges of climate change in conjunction with high added value. As an energy region, Lusatia symbolises these challenges and their opportunities. Good training, qualification and co-determination of employees in the companies strengthen the region. The Future Academy offers young people an insight into good work in Lusatia through dialogue with works councils and youth and trainee representatives."

Background

The Future Academy is a joint event organised by the Qualification Network for Renewable Energies in Lusatia (QLEE) and the DGB project REVIERWENDE, with the support of DGB-Jugend Berlin-Brandenburg. The aim is to familiarise young people from Brandenburg, Saxony and Berlin with the transformation of the Lusatia energy region, to impart knowledge about the energy transition and to promote exchange. QLEE - Qualification network in Lusatia for renewable energies
The Lusatian Qualification Network for Renewable Energies (QLEE) is a project that provides companies and employees in the lignite region with new economic prospects through competent qualification programmes in new technologies. The initiators are the company LEAG, the Institut für betriebliche Bildungsforschung (IBBF) and the Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie e.V. (BEE). The project is geared towards the changing needs of the regional economy during structural change and contributes to the development and retention of skilled labour in Lusatia. At the end of 2021, the joint project received funding approval from the German government's STARK programme, which funds projects that support the transformation process towards an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable economic structure in the coal regions.
REVIERWENDE - Trade unions shape structural change
The REVIERWENDE project, initiated by the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), acts as an active companion and organiser of the ongoing structural change from the perspective of the employees. The main pillars of this project include the creation of networks, counselling services and qualification measures. The central objectives are the preservation and promotion of good work as well as the integration and realisation of the ideas of employees from the mining area. The primary fields of action also include identifying potential and opportunities in the course of this transformation process, particularly with regard to the younger generation.
