Documentation of the conveyor bridge in the Jänschwalde open-cast mine
A project to preserve the history of technology and design new learning spaces
As part of the coal phase-out, the imposing F60 conveyor bridge in the Jänschwalde open-cast mine is being dismantled - an important symbol of East German industrial history is disappearing. In order to preserve this technical monument for posterity, QLEE has launched a special documentation initiative together with the Hamburg-based company Omnia 360 GmbH.
On 9 August, our colleague Henry Tackenberg (IBBF ) accompanied an excursion with LEAG to the Jänschwalde opencast mine. The aim was to capture the conveyor bridge in high-resolution panoramic images and videos using state-of-the-art 360° technology. The resulting digital materials will not only serve as souvenirs in the future, but will also be used as innovative learning resources in the context of vocational training and the energy transition.
The project was supported by Uwe Zillmer, a long-time LEAG employee who has accompanied several coal exits and is considered a committed contemporary witness in the region. His experiences and perspectives have given the documentation a special depth.
With this project, QLEE is combining the past and the future: we are not only preserving a piece of technical history, but also creating new access to knowledge and qualifications in structural change.
